Bilingual HND in Ports and Shipping Management

The Bilingual HND programme in Port and Shipping Management seeks to provide students with the necessary intellectual, practical and technical know-how in French and English required to operate effectively within the Shipping Industry.

 

The program has been designed to Equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the practice of shipping and how it relates to International trade; expose students to the operational issues within the Shipping Industry; produce workers who can perform management functions within the Shipping Industry; train students who will be able to meet up with the challenges faced by the modern Shipping industry in Cameroon.

Objectives of the Program

The objective of the program is for the students to be able to do the following:

  • Have general knowledge of the national, regional and international social and economic environment;
  • Demonstrate rigor in the organization of work and a capacity for responsiveness and creativity;
  • Acquire a general knowledge of the French and English languages, as they are used in ports and shipping;
  • Acquire adequate competencies in negotiation, commercial relations and sales, as well as after-sales.

Learning Outcome

Manage a Logistics Chain

Students learn to manage a logistic chain, especially maritime logistic chains. They master a wide range of techniques related to the supply chain such as warehousing, handling, transit, production, transport;

Manage Ports and Maritime Operations

Students are taught the facilitation and coordination of the exchange between the internal actors of a maritime company, and contribute to the quick resolution of problems between stakeholders of the shipping industry;

Acquire Mastery of Financial Management

Students are provided with knowledge of accounting and financial management as well as management control and the tools needed to optimize the quality and safety of physical and information flows;

Carry Out Bench Marking

Through sales benchmarking, students learn how to determine reference points to compare their shipping procedures, processes and performance so as to make improvements that give them competitive superiority.

FACULTY

FUNIC’s Port and Shipping courses are taught in French and English by highly selected international university professors, trainers, and business managers, drawn from a variety of operational and professional fields, from accounting to digital entrepreneurship, from high-tech innovation to computer based Shipping.

Exchange And Cultural Visit

These visits take our students to local companies and cultural sites across the country. With over 185 different ethnic groups country wide, cultural visits teach lessons that classrooms can only fathom. Visits to palaces, historical sites, and monuments countrywide help students develop a better appreciation of the cultural riches of Cameroon. Company visits on the other hand helps students understand the work and professional ethics of companies in Cameroon. During such company visits, students build valuable employment network and interact with professionals who can shape their career choices.
